Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Part-time Childwatch Counselor to provide a safe, welcoming environment for children while parents participate in YMCA programs.

You will supervise, support positive interactions, and implement age-appropriate activities, while upholding all health, safety, and confidentiality policies. This role emphasizes teamwork and strong communication with families.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
• Ability to engage with children positively and create an environment that fosters learning and respect.
• Strong awareness of child safety and the ability to respond to emergency situations appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and safety: monitor activities and maintain attendance and incident records.
• Behavior management: address issues calmly and supportively, follow guidelines.
• Activity implementation: run age-appropriate activities per curriculum and encourage social interaction.
• Policy adherence: follow health, safety, confidentiality, and reporting policies.
• Daily operations: maintain the Childwatch environment to YMCA standards.
• Leadership: supervise children under the Childwatch Lead and model YMCA values.
• Relationship building: maintain positive relations with families and staff; attend meetings.
• Administrative duties: check children in/out with software and manage devices.
• Child abuse prevention: report concerns and ensure proper sign-in/out and restricted access.
