Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is hiring a Part-time Childwatch Counselor to supervise and engage children in a safe, welcoming environment while parents participate in YMCA programs. You will implement activities, maintain records, and uphold health and safety standards.

The role requires CPR/First Aid/AED, a high school diploma or GED, and experience with youth. You will work under the Childwatch Lead, attend trainings, and interact with families to support positive YMCA experiences.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 6 months of experience with youth in childcare settings preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required.
• Ability to engage children positively and foster learning and respect.
• Plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Experience with diverse populations.
• TB test/immunization as required by health authorities.
• Pass a background and fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure safety of children in Childwatch.
• Implement age-appropriate activities per curriculum.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Childwatch area.
• Follow health, safety, and confidentiality policies.
• Assist with check-in/out and equipment readiness.
• Provide leadership under Childwatch Lead and model YMCA values.
• Engage with families and participate in trainings and meetings.
• Communicate observations and concerns to staff.
• Report incidents and adhere to abuse reporting guidelines.
