Job summary

Fox Valley Park District in Aurora, IL seeks a Youth Basketball League Scorekeeper for Saturdays, 8:00am-2:00pm, during fall/winter seasons. This part-time, seasonal role supports youth leagues by recording scores, fouls, and timeouts and by handling the game clock and scoreboard.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should meet the minimum age requirement of 16, possess a basic understanding of basketball rules and scoring, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Reliability, punctuality, the ability to work independently, and effective communication skills are essential, especially in the fast-paced environment of youth sports. While prior scorekeeping experience is helpful, it is not required, as training will be provided. If not already obtained, CPR/First Aid Certification will be provided by the Park District and required in a timely manner.

DUTIES

Under the direction and supervision of the Athletic Program Supervisor, the PT Scorekeeper’s primary responsibility will be accurately tracking game scores, fouls, timeouts, and game time during youth basketball games while ensuring fair play and supporting a positive environment for all participants. In this role, the scorekeeper operates the official game clock and scoreboard, communicates with referees about any score or foul discrepancies, and maintains accurate and legible score sheets for league records. The position also includes ensuring that all equipment—such as scoreboards, clocks, and score sheets is set up and functioning properly, as well as assisting with court setup and cleanup before and after games. This position also includes ensuring that the district’s code of conduct and all league rules are being followed by players, coaches, and spectators throughout gameplay. Scorekeepers are expected to arrive on time, be attentive throughout their shift, and help maintain a safe, positive, and sportsmanlike environment for players, coaches, referees, and spectators. This is an at-will position.
