Job summary

YMC is seeking a part-time Kids Associate to supervise and engage children in a safe, nurturing environment while guardians participate in YMCA programs. You will plan age-appropriate activities, ensure safety, and communicate with parents to support positive experiences.

The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 lbs., a flexible schedule including evenings/weekends, and adherence to YMCA mission and policies. A background in childcare or related settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with children in childcare, camp, or educational settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children and parents.
• Ability to provide a nurturing, structured environment while maintaining safety protocols.
• Basic knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
• Physical ability to lift children up to 40 lbs., sit on the floor, and actively participate in activities.
• Understanding of YMCA mission, values, and policies.
• All YMCA team members must maintain current safety, risk, and programming certifications per YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage children in a safe, structured, and positive environment while guardians use YMCA facilities.
• Plan and lead age-appropriate activities including crafts, games, and storytelling.
• Ensure safety and well-being by following YMCA childcare policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized childcare space and sanitize toys/equipment.
• Communicate effectively with parents about their child’s experience and incidents.
• Monitor and support children’s behavior with positive reinforcement and redirection.
• Ensure check-in/check-out procedures are followed with accurate attendance.
• Respond to emergencies following YMCA safety protocols.
• Collaborate with childcare team to ensure high-quality care.
• Uphold YMCA values in all interactions with children and families.
• Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
