Job summary

Ymcaofcm is seeking a Part-Time Youth Programs Assistant to supervise a group of children from 3 months to 12 years and guide activities aligned with the Y’s values.

Role requires CPR, First Aid and AED certifications, with Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days. ASL proficiency strongly preferred to support communication across diverse families. Schedule includes Wednesday mornings and Friday evenings during the school year.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required with onboarding.
• Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
• Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) strongly preferred to support effective communication with all members of our community.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a group of children and program activities for children ages 3 months old – 12 years old.
• Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies).
• Nurtures children through unstructured free play and activities that are consistent with the Y’s values.
• Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program.
• Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
• Projects a professional image, including neat appearance, positive manner and dependable attendance and serves as a role model for children, families and other staff.
• Attends and participates in program activities and staff meetings.
• Works collaboratively and positively with other co-workers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
