Job summary

YMCA of the Triangle is seeking a Youth Counselor to lead, develop, and build relationships with youth in our after-school or community program at our Raleigh site. Under supervision, you will support activities that are fun, safe, and developmentally appropriate, and you will model positive behavior and YMCA values in daily interactions with youth and families.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience with children or teens preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, crafts, activities, sports, or games is a plus.
• Multilingual is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and builds relationships with a group of elementary and/or middle school students.
• Implements activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
• Creates a fun, safe, friendly and challenging atmosphere.
• Mentors and models responsible behavior for children in the program.
• Fosters relationship-building with campers, parents, school staff, and YMCA staff.
• Adheres to YMCA policies including medical, disciplinary, and safety procedures.
• Maintains space and equipment in clean, good condition daily.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Develops relationships with community organizations; communicates clearly within area of responsibility.
