Job summary

YMCA of Greater Brandywine is seeking an energetic Group Exercise Instructor to lead classes in a safe, engaging, and professional manner. You will greet participants, track attendance, and ensure on‑time starts and proper use of equipment.

You will adapt workouts to participant needs, participate in trainings, and support events while upholding YMCA policies and delivering high‑quality programming.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Available Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
• At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
• Possess and maintain at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Instruct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.
• Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude.
• All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured.
• Classes will start and end on time.
• Greet participants and learn their names.
• Take class attendance.
• Familiarize yourself with Upace Group Ex technology including sub tracking, class contact feature, class cancellation.
• Identify participants’ limitations and adapt classes accordingly.
• Properly and safely utilize all equipment.
• Promote a healthy lifestyle.
• Attend advanced training workshops offered by YGBW or co‑op YMCA.
• Participate in special events and open houses.
• Ensure compliance with YGBW policies and SOPs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

• Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email
• Identify your participants’ limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly
• Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class
• Promote a healthy lifestyle
• Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co‑op member YMCA)
• Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year
• Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
