Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Washington in Middleburg, VA is seeking a Junior Camp Counselor to support daily activities, help lead campers, and model YMCA values during a dynamic summer program.

You’ll participate in training before camp, bring energy and creativity, maintain safety, and help campers build friendships. Bi-weekly pay and a free Y membership are part of the package.

Qualifications

• Be available from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season.
• 16+ years of age.
• Active, loud, creative and present-all day, every day.
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to get certified).
• Able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Support lead counselors in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers by assisting with daily activities, games, and transitions throughout the day.
• Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while building meaningful relationships with campers, staff, and parents.
• Help ensure camper safety and well-being by following camp policies, supervising participants, and communicating any concerns or incidents promptly to senior staff.
• Encourage camper participation and engagement by providing individualized support, helping resolve minor conflicts, and fostering a fun, welcoming atmosphere aligned with YMCA values.
