Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a Junior Camp Counselor to support our summer program. You’ll help lead activities, keep campers safe, and model YMCA values in a lively, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities include assisting lead counselors, supervising campers, resolving minor conflicts, and encouraging participation. Must be 16+ and CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain). Training starts before camp begins.

Qualifications

• 16+ years of age.
• CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to get certified).
• Able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Support lead counselors in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers by assisting with daily activities, games, and transitions throughout the day.
• Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while building meaningful relationships with campers, staff, and parents.
• Help ensure camper safety and well-being by following camp policies, supervising participants, and communicating any concerns or incidents promptly to senior staff.
• Encourage camper participation and engagement by providing individualized support, helping resolve minor conflicts, and fostering a fun, welcoming atmosphere aligned with YMCA values.
