Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a fun, enthusiastic Group Leader to support before and after school programs. You will help plan and deliver engaging activities aligned with the YMCA School Age Curriculum and contribute to a safe, welcoming environment for all children.

You’ll lead activities that spark creativity, encourage teamwork, and foster learning, with a focus on supervision and family engagement in a dynamic, mission-driven setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to obtain CDA within 18 months of employment.
  • Pass required background screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with oversight of daily program activities and communication with families.
  • Support and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans.
  • Establish structure, routines, and behavior expectations for children.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including emergency procedures.
  • Communicate with parents and families regularly and professionally.
  • Participate in events and family engagement activities throughout the year.

Group Leader – School Age Programs

Location: YMCA at Calomiris
Compensation: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour
Schedule: Part-Time | Mornings/Evening Hours | School Year

About the Position

We are seeking fun, enthusiastic, and committed Group Leaders to support our before and after school programs. Group Leaders assist the Site Director with daily program operations, and help plan and deliver engaging activities that align with the YMCA School Age Curriculum.


You’ll have the opportunity to lead activities that spark creativity, encourage teamwork, support learning, and contribute to a safe, welcoming environment for all children.


What You’ll Do

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including emergency procedures.

  • Communicate routinely and professionally with parents and families.

  • Participate in events and family engagement activities throughout the year.


What You Bring


  • Must be at least 18 years old with a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Ability to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) within 18 months of employment.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Documentation of physical exam and TB test.

  • Ability to pass required background screenings.

  • Positive, creative attitude and the ability to relate to children, families, and school staff.


Schedule


  • Monday-Friday

  • Before Care 6:30am-8:00am and or

  • After Care 2:30pm-6:30pm
