PURPOSE

Directs the activities of yard personnel to ensure good customer service and the safe and efficient movement of goods and equipment on the premises.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages yard staff and directs workers in loading, unloading, and movement of materials using material handling equipment; oversees receiving and storage procedures.
• Ensures employees are trained and certified to operate equipment; maintains equipment properly.
• Inspects loading operations for outgoing deliveries to ensure compliance with specifications and safety regulations; prepares bills of lading and packing slips.
• Provides on-the-job training to new yard employees on product knowledge, safety, and housekeeping.
• Performs duties similar to other yard personnel as needed.
• Maintains neat and clean outside areas; reports hazards and handles remedial actions.
• Assists customers with loading, provides delivery status, and answers related questions.
• Follows safety procedures to prevent injuries; attends safety meetings; suggests safety improvements.
• Leads and supervises employees, assigns tasks, monitors work, provides guidance, and trains team members; may evaluate employee performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises assigned employees, including assigning, monitoring, reviewing work, and training. May provide performance feedback to management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED and five years of yard operations experience, or equivalent education and experience.

COMPETENCIES

• Advanced knowledge of yard operations and materials handling.
• Knowledge of machinery operation; maintains certifications if required.
• Ability to plan and optimize work processes.
• Strong communication skills for team leadership.
• Ability to read schedules and reports.
• Basic math skills.
• Customer service orientation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The role involves outdoor yard work, with exposure to weather, noise, and dust. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally. Tasks may include climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.
