Job summary

Estes-Express-Lines is seeking a yard/dock associate to safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other equipment in the yard. You will perform pre/post-shift inspections and assist with loading/unloading using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.

The role requires a CDL if driving on public roads, along with a valid MVR and FMCSA Clearinghouse registration if applicable. A stable work history and ability to work outdoors are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent background.
• Must be 17+ years of age.
• A valid CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads.
• If a CDL holder, must be registered with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Experience in transportation is a plus though not required.
• Stable work history.
• Ability to operate forklift (7500 lb. vehicle).
• Must be able to push or pull loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs.
• Physical abilities include standing, lifting, twisting, turning, climbing a ladder, etc.
• Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers involving landing gear and 5th wheel pin with ~65 lbs pressure.
• Night/weekend shifts may be required.
• Must lift approx 70 lbs. or more as needed.
• Must comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct.
• Must interact well with others and work independently or in a team.
• Able to perform under tight deadlines in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background checks; must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other large equipment to facilitate loading/unloading in the yard.
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of yard and dock equipment.
• Cube, load, and unload freight using a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand.
• Load freight to prevent damage and shifting in transit using blocking, braces, load bars, straps, dunnage and air bags.
• Set up, break down and hook trailers safely.
• Ensure pup trailers have tilt bar lowered prior to loading freight.
• Raise and lower landing gear.
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; notify management.
• Work in outdoor weather conditions.
• Perform all duties of dockworker as requested.
• Communicate effectively with Dock supervision, Line Haul drivers and Fleet Services personnel.
• Regular attendance is required.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
