Job summary

Estes Express Lines in United States is seeking a driver trainee to safely handle tractor/trailers in the yard and dock areas. You will cube, load, unload, and secure freight, and perform pre/post-shift inspections as part of the driver trainee program.

The role requires a valid driver's license and eligibility for CDL training, with strict adherence to safety rules and FMCSA regulations. Physical requirements include lifting up to 70 lbs and working in outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be able to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. capacity)
• Must be able to read/understand written information and safety rules
• Ability to work independently or in a team setting
• Ability to meet FMCSA requirements to speak and read English

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and other large equipment in the yard
• Cube, load and unload freight using forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand
• Secure freight to prevent damage or shifting
• Record freight condition on arrival at service center
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of yard and dock equipment
• Set up, break down, and hook trailers safely
• Ensure pup trailers have tilt bars lowered prior to loading
• Raise and lower landing gear
• Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; report to management
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Report maintenance issues to Fleet Services and supervision
• Work the dock a minimum of five hours per week in addition to yard work as jockey/hostler
• Clock dock vs jockey time in Kronos for tracking
• Maintain regular attendance
• Adhere to all job duties and safety requirements as assigned
