Job summary

Aerotek in Newark, NJ is seeking a Yard Jockey to safely organize and secure a busy container storage yard while operating yard switchers, pickup trucks, and forklifts.

You will manage equipment movement, support gate security, and maintain accurate inventory in an outdoor environment, with a contract-to-hire path and onsite work.

Qualifications

• Experience operating yard switchers and forklifts.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Ability to perform inventory counts and basic documentation.

Responsibilities

• Secure and organize the container storage yard to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Operate a yard switcher and pickup truck to move trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard.
• Direct drivers as they pick up and drop off equipment, providing clear instructions for parking and movement.
• Perform gate security transactions, including checking equipment in and out of the yard.
• Lift, move, and relocate improperly parked equipment to designated areas.
• Conduct regular security checks to monitor the yard and equipment condition.
• Perform inventory counts of containers, trailers, and related equipment to maintain accurate records.
• Handle general labor tasks such as loading, material handling, and organizing equipment as needed.
• Operate a forklift to safely move materials and containers when required.
• Work safely in outdoor conditions, following all safety procedures and wearing required protective equipment, including steel toe boots.
• Collaborate with yard coordinators, forklift operators, and drivers to maintain smooth yard operations.
• Use basic computer skills to support yard documentation, inventory tracking, and transaction recording.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newark, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
