YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is hiring an On-Site Site Lead for Achieve Charter Academy to supervise and plan activities for groups of children, supporting social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. The role involves developing weekly lesson plans, coordinating with school staff, and maintaining safe, engaging environments.

The position requires meeting licensing requirements, DHS clearance, TB testing, and completed certifications within stated timelines.

Qualifications

• Meets state licensing requirements.
• DHS clearance with documentation prior to starting.
• TB skin test within 30 days of hire.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Blood Borne Pathogens, Redwoods, and Concussion training required.

Responsibilities

• Attend to the needs of children at all times and ensure a safe, nurturing environment at the site.
• Communicate with parents via newsletters, calls, and face-to-face meetings.
• Develop and implement weekly lesson plans with themed activities, STEM, literacy, and leadership initiatives.
• Set up and clean learning environments and prepare materials.
• Coordinate with school and YMCA staff and participate in meetings.
• Serve healthy snacks and maintain required paperwork and drills.

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Before and After School Care Site Lead is responsible for the supervision, planning, implementation, and development of activities for a group of children while assisting in the development of children’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development at their assigned site(s).

SITE LOCATION PLACEMENT

The Site Lead will be located at Achieve Charter Academy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• 2 years of experience in a childcare setting is preferred, not required
• Credit hours in Elementary Education, Recreation, or Early Childhood (over 19+ years of age)
• Some experience supervising children is preferred, but not required

TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES

• Meets state-licensing agency requirements
• Achieves DHS Clearance, with documentation, prior to starting work
• Passes TB skin test within 30 days of hire
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days of hire
• Completes Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and Concussion training, required

ABILITIES & SKILLS

• Ability to participate in, plan, and lead all physical activities
• Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children
• Capability to be outside for up to 30 minutes a day, year-round

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attends to the needs of participating children at all times, while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment through overall management of the assigned site
• Communicates with parents in monthly newsletters, phone calls, and face-to-face contact
• Develop and implement lesson plans of weekly activities that meet requirements set by the Supervisor that involve themed-based activities, CATCH programming, STEM, literacy, character development, and leadership and diversity initiatives
• Set up and clean up physical learning environments and prepare necessary materials and supplies, ensuring all equipment and supplies meet maintenance and storage standards
• Establishes and maintains relationships with assigned school and YMCA staff and program participants through attendance of staff meetings, open houses, and PTA meetings
• Serves prepared healthy snacks to children and maintains required paperwork
• Has an understanding of all emergency site procedures and record drills
• Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
