Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is hiring a Before and After School Care Site Lead for Farmington Parochial Schools. The role focuses on supervising and developing activities for children, while supporting their social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive growth.

The Site Lead will work at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Fabian, St. William, St. Regis, and St. Hugo with placement determined by management. Certification and DHS clearance are required before starting.

Qualifications

• 2 years of childcare experience preferred
• Credit hours in Elementary Education, Recreation, or Early Childhood
• Some experience supervising children preferred

Responsibilities

• Attends to the needs of participating children at all times, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment
• Communicates with parents via monthly newsletters, calls, and face-to-face contact
• Develops and implements weekly lesson plans with themed activities, STEM, literacy, and leadership initiatives
• Sets up and cleans learning environments and prepares materials
• Maintains relationships with school and YMCA staff through meetings and events
• Serves healthy snacks and handles required paperwork
• Follows emergency site procedures and records drills
• Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Before and After School Care Site Lead is responsible for the supervision, planning, implementation, and development of activities for a group of children while assisting in the development of children’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development at their assigned site(s).

SITE LOCATION PLACEMENT

The Site Lead will be located at Farmington Parochial Schools: Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Fabian, St. William, St. Regis, and St. Hugo. They will receive their school site location, from Management, based on staff availability and levels in the area.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• 2 years of experience in a childcare setting is preferred, not required
• Credit hours in Elementary Education, Recreation, or Early Childhood (over 19+ years of age)
• Some experience supervising children is preferred, but not required

TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS/PREREQUISITES

• Meets state-licensing agency requirements
• Achieves DHS Clearance, with documentation, prior to starting work
• Passes TB skin test within 30 days of hire
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days of hire
• Completes Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and Concussion training, required

ABILITIES & SKILLS

• Ability to participate in, plan, and lead all physical activities
• Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children
• Capability to be outside for up to 30 minutes a day, year-round

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attends to the needs of participating children at all times, while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment through overall management of the assigned site
• Communicates with parents in monthly newsletters, phone calls, and face-to-face contact
• Develop and implement lesson plans of weekly activities that meet requirements set by the Supervisor that involve themed-based activities, CATCH programming, STEM, literacy, character development, and leadership and diversity initiatives
• Set up and clean up physical learning environments and prepare necessary materials and supplies, ensuring all equipment and supplies meet maintenance and storage standards
• Establishes and maintains relationships with assigned school and YMCA staff and program participants through attendance of staff meetings, open houses, and PTA meetings
• Serves prepared healthy snacks to children and maintains required paperwork
• Has an understanding of all emergency site procedures and record drills
• Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
