The YMCA is seeking a Youth Development Site Director in Colorado Springs to lead Before & After School, Adventure Days, Break Camps and Summer Day Camp, supervise staff and guide program quality while fostering safe, nurturing relationships with children and families.

You will ensure compliance with licensing, mentor counselors, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver age-appropriate curricula and positive youth development in a split-shift schedule.

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
  • Two years of college training and six months of experience in care and supervision of four or more children
  • Additional teaching/educational license is a big advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of child development
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills

Job Details: Job Location: Colorado Springs, CO 80903, Position Type: Part Time, Job Shift: Split Shift, POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Site Director will be directly responsible for organizing and implementing school age childcare programs. You will provide leadership and direct supervision to staff and groups of children during the school year in Before & After Programs, Adventure Days, and Break Camps as well as during Summer Day Camp. You will oversee administrative and program details while having the opportunity to create positive and nurturing relationships with children. You will also be a role model in building cooperative relationships with the parents/caregivers. As the Site Director you will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall participant experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Applies to Before & After School Programs + Summer Day Camp):
  • Supervise B&A Site, Adventure Days & Break Camps, as well as Summer Day Camp site throughout the year
  • Be available to substitute, in or out of ratio, and travel throughout the region we serve (Fountain to Monument)
  • Provide supervision and leadership in efforts to mentor & coach counselors and aides within region on YMCA Association standards, state licensing requirements, and other job related functions
  • Help develop and facilitate trainings for Youth Development staff on behavior management, expectations, SOP’s, and other areas of professional development in your program area.
  • Complete supply procurement & purchase as needed for your program.
  • Demonstrate fiscal accountability by following assigned budget guidelines.
  • Implementing age appropriate curriculum.
  • Develop programs and location set up that will provide a safe and nurturing, yet fun environment for children and staff
  • Evaluate children’s engagement and needs; be fundamental in creating growth opportunities for the kids in your program.
  • Develop and maintain timely and professional communication with parents
  • Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, and children.
  • Primary in responding to all accidents and incidents within your program.
  • Identify need for and provide positive guidance that is age appropriate and maintains respect for the child in any behavioral situation.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect and allow for individual differences. Provide an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child and show as much individual attention as possible to each child. Implement curriculum that is age appropriate and helps a child reach their full potential in each area of development.

  • Be familiar with and adhere to the program’s policies, health and safety regulations, emergency procedures and be ready to implement if necessary.
  • May be required to work hours outside of normal work schedule for training, extended program hours, parent nights, or association events.
  • Maintain State licensing and YMCA Association Standards and Minimum Guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper care and storage of equipment and supplies as well as program space.
  • Complete routine and required forms to include, but not limited to: attendance records, observation records, incident and injury reports.
  • Prepare snacks or meals as assigned.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and respect to your fellow peers.
  • Modeling good character and hygiene habits.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to visually observe children and to physically intervene when the safety of a participant could be compromised.
  • Ability to physically move with participants through a wide variety of indoor and outdoor program settings and activities including but not limited to swimming, hiking, skating, gym activities, arts and crafts.

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Verifiable*education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H
  • Completed at least one of the following qualifications:
  • A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; OR
  • Two years of college training and six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18), in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; OR
  • Three year (5640 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part time, paid of volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
  • Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; OR
  • 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment.
  • Additional teaching and/or educational license/certificate is a big advantage

  • Verifiable and Satisfactory experience includes experience in the care and supervision of four or more children from the ages of four (4)-eighteen (18) years old, unrelated to the individual, since attaining the age of eighteen (18). Babysitting and Nannying are not accepted.
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION:
  • Reporting any suspicious behaviors and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health and safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to you supervisor

The YMCA has a zero tolerance policy for abuse. We will report all suspected and/or allegations of abuse to state and federal law.

CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Complete Redwoods: Hazardous Communications (yearly), Sexual Harassment Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens (yearly), Child Sexual Abuse Prevention (yearly), and Behavior Management 101
  • Complete and maintain ALL licensing required forms, training, and background check requirements.
  • Maintain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer every 2 years; skills every year
  • Maintain First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen every 2 years

You are responsible for staying compliant with ALL state licensing requirements. Non-compliance will result in removal from the schedule and possible termination if non-compliance continues.
