Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Science and Engineering Associate to provide technical support and operational oversight for X-ray spectroscopy beam lines and associated equipment. You will assist visiting users and staff, contribute to design, prototyping and maintenance activities, and help ensure safe, reliable operation of complex instruments.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or certificate in engineering or scientific discipline, or three years of equivalent work experience.
• Experience applying scientific and engineering principles and practices to perform technical services and support.
• Experience with design and development of prototypes, equipment, and/or systems related to area of specialization.
• Ability to write clear documentation and perform administrative duties for research studies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation, testing, operation and troubleshooting of X-ray spectroscopy end station instrumentation.
• Provide user and staff technical support on X-ray spectroscopy beam lines.
• Participate in development, prototyping, procurement and commissioning of equipment.
• Modify, repair and troubleshoot complex equipment.
• Prepare drawings, material lists, requisitions and engineering change requests with supervision.
