Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University’s SSRL seeks a Science and Engineering Associate to provide technical support and operational oversight for the X-ray spectroscopy beam lines and associated experimental equipment. You will support visiting scientific users as well as staff and contribute to day-to-day operations and improvements of beamline systems.

Qualifications

Associate degree or certificate or 3 years equivalent experience in electronics.
Experience with design and development of prototypes, equipment, or systems.
Ability to write documentation and maintain procedures.
Ability to work in a team and unsupervised under procedures.
Excellent communication skills with staff, students, faculty, and vendors.
Ability to interpret data and verify own work.
Solid understanding of Ohm’s law and basic circuits.
Proficiency with commercial test equipment for electrical measurements.
Skilled with hand tools like drills, punches, saws and other small tools.
Ability to guide and coordinate with team members.

Responsibilities

Design, assemble, fabricate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electronic and electromechanical systems.
Fabricate and assemble mechanical systems, electronic enclosures, and fixtures based on 3D CAD models.
Design, build, label and install custom cable assemblies for specialized applications.
Conduct electrical and mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment.
Create and maintain schematics and wiring diagrams using ECAD software; document safety procedures.
Collaborate with engineers, physicists, chemists, technicians and other teams.
