Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College – South Bend is seeking a part-time tutor to work with students in person at the tutoring center or virtually. You will provide individualized and group support following the center’s protocols and refer students to campus resources as needed.

Responsibilities include using TracCloud for recordkeeping, collaborating with faculty to improve outcomes, and maintaining FERPA compliance while delivering friendly, professional service in a diverse environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant academic, tutoring, or teaching experience.
• Current Ivy Tech student status preferred (minimum GPA 3.0 in the subject area tutored).
• Strong oral communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations.
• Ability to reference and connect students with appropriate campus resources.
• Familiarity with FERPA and college privacy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats.
• Refer students to appropriate academic support services as needed.
• Complete paperwork and recordkeeping in TracCloud.
• Participate in initial and ongoing training programs.
• Work with faculty to improve student outcomes.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION: This position concentrates on providing tutoring services to students virtually or in the tutoring center at the South Bend Campus. This position will work with a divergent student population by providing face-to-face and virtual tutoring services.Location: Ivy Tech Community College - South BendEmployment Type: Part TimeCompensation: $15/hrMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats following the established protocol in the Writing Center.Serve as a link to other College resources and refer students to appropriate academic support services as needed.Complete all paperwork and recordkeeping as requested by the supervisor, including required entries in the designated College system, TracCloud.Participate in initial and ongoing training programs as requiredWork with faculty when necessary to ensure best possible outcomes for students.Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and strong problem solving.Dress and behave in a professional manner.Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions.Attend and participate in department meetings and bi-annual professional development.Customer Service:Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success.Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student, or an internal or external stakeholder, and get to the root cause of a problem, question, or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.Other Functions: SkillsShould have knowledge of discipline, technologies and coaching techniques appropriate to tutoring, and tutor scheduling systems.Should have strong working knowledge of technologies required to complete administrative tasks.Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. This may include current or former college students, recent college graduates, retired teachers, faculty members, or individuals with at least one semester of tutoring experience.Current students must have completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject area they will tutor.Applicants must demonstrate strong oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
