Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso, IN seeks a part-time tutor to provide individualized and group tutoring, with emphasis on English courses. The role supports EdReady, IvyLearn, and related software while maintaining tutoring records and weekly student appointments.

The position requires a degree in the subject or related field (or progress), strong GPA, and solid computer literacy. Collaborative work with the Tutoring Coordinator and Lead Tutors is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in subject tutored or closely related field preferred.
• Strong GPA in subject area or professional experience.
• Proficient in word processing and basic computer skills.
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and manage schedules.
• Familiarity with Ivy Tech software like EdReady, IvyLearn, and MyLab/Mastering.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and group tutoring to empower independent learners.
• Maintain tutoring records and weekly appointments for each student.
• Report to Tutoring Coordinator and Lead Tutors as to student needs.
• Promote the tutoring program with faculty, students, and staff.
• Support campus Tutoring Center operations and scheduling.

Job description

Provide tutoring and other support services to students in a variety of subjects and courses offered by the college, with a primary focus on subject specific materials in accordance with education, experience, and expertise. Support requests from the Tutoring Resource Coordinator and Lead Tutors. Encourage students by providing a supportive attitude and helping build student confidence.This position will primarily provide tutoring support for English courses; however, candidates with the ability to support additional subject areas are encouraged to apply.Major Responsibilities:Provides individualized and group tutoring in a manner that empowers students to become independent, successful learners.Provides tutoring in Ivy Tech courses with concentrations in subjects specific to qualifications.Teaches and assists students in the use of computer software.Guides and instructs students in the use of software programs and/or web-based applications directly related to Ivy Tech coursework and infrastructure.Maintains tutoring records and weekly appointments for each student.Maintains a consistent semester schedule in regard to time and locationInteracts with Tutoring Coordinator and/or instructors as to student needs, topics tutored, course changes, and new text book adoptions.Takes active role in promoting the tutoring program with faculty, students, and staffReports directly to the Lead Tutor(s) as to the needs and concerns related to TutoringPerforms duties to provide for the smooth operation of the campus Tutoring CenterUpdates Tutoring Coordinator and other Lead Tutor(s) about any performance and scheduling issuesMaintains organization and cleanliness within the Tutoring CenterVerifies that all textbooks are properly secured within cabinetryStays abreast of new applications such as EdReady, IvyLearn, MyLab/Mastering, etc.Supports the Lead Tutor in providing needed materials for training sessions/workshopsThe above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.Location: ValparaisoHourly Rate: $15.00Minimum Qualifications: Associate or Baccalaureate degree preferred (or in progress) in subject tutored or closely related field with professional experience, or strong GPA in subject with faculty recommendation in subject-matter area.
