Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College – South Bend campus is seeking a part-time Chemistry Tutor to support students face-to-face or virtually. You will meet individually or in groups to reinforce lecture concepts, assist with problem solving, and help students develop effective study strategies.

Collaborating with Chemistry faculty, maintaining FERPA compliance, and timely recordkeeping in TracCloud are essential. The role emphasizes professionalism, customer service, and commitment to student success.

Qualifications

• Experience tutoring or teaching chemistry at college level.
• Current Ivy Tech student or alum with GPA of 3.0 or higher in relevant subject (if applicable).
• Excellent oral communication and ability to work with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats to reinforce chemistry concepts.
• Guide students in acquiring and applying study skills for chemistry courses.
• Refer students to academic support services as needed.
• Complete paperwork and recordkeeping in the designated college system (TracCloud).
• Participate in training programs as required.
• Consult with chemistry faculty to align with course objectives and changes in curriculum.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:Provides tutoring assistance primarily in Chemistry courses taught at Ivy Tech Community College. This is a part-time position based at the South Bend campus. Tutoring will be conducted face-to-face or virtually. The position focuses on supporting student learning in Chemistry and maintaining awareness of course changes and needs specific to Chemistry courses.Location: Ivy Tech Community College - South BendEmployment Type: Part TimeCompensation: $15.00/ HrMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats to enhance, support, and clarify concepts discussed in Chemistry course lectures, readings, assignments, handouts, and other instructional materials.• Provide students guidance in the acquisition and application of study skills methods appropriate for Chemistry courses.• Serve as a link to other College resources and refer students to appropriate academic support services as needed.• Complete all paperwork and recordkeeping as requested by the supervisor, including required entries in the designated College system, TracCloud.• Participate in initial and ongoing training programs as required.• Consult with Chemistry faculty to help students meet course learning objectives and stay abreast of changes to course content, curriculum, instructional expectations, and needs specific to Chemistry courses.• Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.• Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and strong problem solving.• Dress and behave in a professional manner.• Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions.This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must have relevant academic, tutoring, or teaching experience. This may include current or former college students, recent college graduates, retired teachers, faculty members, or individuals with at least one semester of tutoring experience.Current students must have completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject area they will tutor.Applicants must demonstrate strong oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
