Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College – South Bend is seeking a part-time tutor to provide tutoring services to students virtually or in the tutoring center. You will work with a diverse student population and coordinate with faculty to support student success.

Responsibilities include meeting with students in multiple formats, maintaining records, and adhering to FERPA guidelines. Previous tutoring or teaching experience is required; excellent oral communication and a customer-service mindset are

Qualifications

• Applicants must have relevant academic, tutoring, or teaching experience.
• Current students must have completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the subject area they will tutor.
• Applicants must demonstrate strong oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Current or former students must have no campus disciplinary record.

• Dress and behave in a professional manner.
• Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions.
• Attend and participate in department meetings and bi-annual professional development.

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

This position concentrates on providing tutoring services to students virtually or in the tutoring center at the South Bend Campus. This position will work with a divergent student population by providing face-to-face and virtual tutoring services.

Location: Ivy Tech Community College - South Bend

Employment Type : Part Time

Compensation: $15/hr

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring formats following the established protocol in the Writing Center.
• Serve as a link to other College resources and refer students to appropriate academic support services as needed.
• Complete all paperwork and recordkeeping as requested by the supervisor, including required entries in the designated College system, TracCloud.
• Participate in initial and ongoing training programs as required
• Work with faculty when necessary to ensure best possible outcomes for students.
• Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.
• Demonstrate strong customer service and student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and strong problem solving.

• Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student, or an internal or external stakeholder, and get to the root cause of a problem, question, or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.

Other Functions: Skills

• Should have knowledge of discipline, technologies and coaching techniques appropriate to tutoring, and tutor scheduling systems.
• Should have strong working knowledge of technologies required to complete administrative tasks.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
