Job summary

UEC is seeking a part-time tutor to support students and staff in writing and reading, delivering sessions face-to-face or online via Smarthinking. The role emphasizes applying theory-based tutoring practices and maintaining accurate session records.

The position requires junior-level college status (60 credits) in English or related fields and strong communication skills. Experience tutoring or mentoring is a plus, as is familiarity with community college environments.

Qualifications

• Must have at least junior-level college status (60 semester credits) in English or related field.
• Recommendation from English teacher, graduate advisor, or tutoring experience.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn theory-based tutoring and writing center theory.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring in writing and reading to SCC students and staff, both face-to-face and online via Smarthinking.
• Follow best practices based on current tutor and writing center theory.
• Promote a positive, welcoming learning and working environment by following center protocols.
• Maintain accurate records of student sessions and submit timely web time entries.
• Support organizational goals by enhancing communication, policies and operations.
• Assist with keeping the Writing Center clean and orderly.
• Cooperate with the Director of Transitions and Tutoring and the Tutor Center Coordinator.
• Provide information to assist with building term schedules as needed.
