Job summary

Northwest Florida State College is seeking a part-time tutor/lab assistant for the Academic Success & Retention program at South Walton, FL. The role supports students in English Composition I & II, both in person and remotely, and contributes to writing workshops and resource development.

The position may involve on-campus or virtual duties, collaboration with faculty, and assignments to promote student engagement and retention. Training at the Niceville Campus may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Must have earned "B" or higher in tutoring-related courses.
• Preference for tutoring/teaching experience with high school or college students.
• Willingness to travel to the Niceville Campus for training and events or as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with students one-on-one and in small groups, remotely or in-person.
• Research and create resources related to English, writing, and reading skills.
• Guide students through all facets of the writing process: pre-writing, drafting, and proofreading.
• Educate students on varied written communication styles (emails, business proposals, academic writing).
• Develop and present writing workshops addressing common student mistakes.
• Maintain MLA, APA, and Chicago Style formatting familiarity.
• Assist with tutoring sessions and student outreach technology.
• Complete mandatory compliance training and other duties as requested.
