The position requires in-person hours with some remote Fridays, and teamwork with the Writers’ Room Manager to foster student empowerment and community in a trauma-sensitive learning environment in Dorchester, MA.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching/tutoring writing to students grades 7-12 in an urban setting.
  • Ability to work with ELLs, neurodivergent youth, and immigrant communities.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed educational practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide writing tutoring during individual conferences, small-group visits, and whole-class visits.
  • Develop and lead programming such as clubs and workshops.
  • Support social-emotional learning through writing.
  • Create monthly progress newsletters and share highlights.
  • Coordinate Writers’ Room volunteers and manage communications.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for program evaluation.
  • Support publishing-project design, manuscript layout, and release events.
  • Support Student Editorial Board in content, design, and title selection.
  • Communicate progress to staff supervisor and seek guidance as needed.
