Responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and HR processes for 826 Boston employees.
  • Track and organize HR materials, draft staff bios, and support interview processes.
  • Conduct inventory of books, supplies, and equipment to support operations.
  • Improve data storage and file organization in Google Drive.
  • Support POPS team with additional tasks as needed.

About the Opportunity

826 Boston seeks a collaborative and detailed person to serve as the inaugural Part-time temporary Human Resources and Operations Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our growing team.

This role would start September 28, 2026 and end June 25, 2027, with the possibility for the role to be extended. There is a mid-year break from December 21, 2026–January 1, 2027.

Mission

826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life.

Responsibilities

The Human Resources and Operations Assistant will work up to but not exceeding 20 hours a week. Regular in-person hours are required. Applicants must be residing in Massachusetts and able to commute to the in-person location listed below, before the role starts. You and your supervisor would create a set schedule of when you would work— not to exceed 20 hours per week for the duration of the position. The role requires one day a week in person at 3035 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the hiring, onboarding, and human resources of 826 Boston employees
  • Track and update human resources materials. For example: posting open roles on job boards, creating folders for candidates, writing up staff bios to send to the team, drafting interview rubrics, etc
  • Conduct inventory (student books, office supplies, laptops, keys, etc) to ensure efficient and accurate operational and office organization
  • Improve data storage systems for Google Drive, employee files, etc
  • Support the People, Operations, and Program Supports (POPS) team with other tasks as needed

Compensation:
  • Up to 20 hours a week at $20 per hour
