Job summary

SEIU Local 721 in Southern California seeks a Worksite Organizer to implement the union’s program, recruit and develop leaders, and mobilize members to advance the union’s priorities. The role requires articulating the Union’s message, enforcing contracts, and leading internal and external campaigns across multiple worksites.

Key duties include recruiting, training leaders, and coordinating turnout for actions, with regular one-on-one member planning and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to receive and implement feedback.
• Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Analytical skills to interpret contract language.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours, including weekends and overnight as needed.
• Must have valid driver’s license, car insurance, and a working automobile.

Responsibilities

• Identify, recruit, develop, and train shop stewards on all levels of representational matters.
• Articulate the union’s message to workers and carry out internal and external campaigns.
• Coordinate turnout for union actions, events, and meetings across jurisdictions.
• Maintain weekly work plans and accurate records of activities and time allocation.
• Support staff development and contribute to strategy and planning meetings.
