Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 5–8 years in staffing, recruitment, or sales/marketing.

  • Experience working with employers in DC workforce systems is a plus.
  • Strong resume, interviewing, and career-coaching capabilities.
  • Ability to coordinate career development activities and events.

Responsibilities

  • Network with employers and identify student placement and externship opportunities.
  • Contact employers to participate in professional development days and career fairs.
  • Collaborate with employers to identify students for employment and set up interviews.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and help with resumes and cover letters.
  • Coordinate career fairs every two months and share weekly job opportunities.
  • Track monthly employment placements and provide feedback to students.

Job description

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Position Description

The Workforce Development Specialist builds and maintains relationships with employers to identify job opportunities and support student placement. Provides career development training, individualized coaching, and job-search assistance to prepare students for successful employment. Supports students with resume development, interviewing, job applications, and other workforce-readiness activities, and assists them in securing employment aligned with their training, skills, and career goals.

Compensation

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $68,740 and may be commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Expected Contributions: Employer Relations
  • Network with employers and identify opportunities for potential student placement and externships
  • Contact employers and professionals to participate in professional development days and career fairs
  • Collaborate with employers to identify students for employment consideration and set up interview sessions
Career Development
  • Assist students in locating employment
  • Coordinate professional development days
  • Facilitate and develop/evaluate curriculum for Job Search Club
  • Provide one-on-one coaching for students seeking employment
  • Review resumes and cover letters
  • Coordinate career fairs every two months
  • Send weekly job opportunities to students
  • Maintain communication with students throughout job search and graduates who have not obtained employment
  • Facilitate career development seminars
  • Participate in unit team meetings and provide career development feedback on students
  • Track monthly employment placements

Reports To: Manager, Student Success

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to travel off-site using his or her own transportation methods. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. This position may be active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
