Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to review, analyze, and process moderately to complex claims using modern tech. You will determine liability, assess losses, negotiate settlements, and manage property/casualty claims with bodily injury or property loss components.

The role offers progression from Specialist II to Senior Specialist I/II, with onsite requirements and regional pay variations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ workers’ compensation claims handling experience.
• Direct claims-handling experience from investigation through resolution.
• BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience; licenses required.
• Minimum 2 years experience in claims adjustment, general insurance or formal claims training.
• Continuing education courses leading to industry certifications preferred (AEI, IIA, CPCU).
• Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology, and legal aspects of claims.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct investigations of claims, interviewing insureds, witnesses, and claimants, collecting documentation, and securing evidence.
• Engage independent adjusters, cause-origin experts, and independent medical examiners as needed.
• Refer claims to subrogation or SIU when appropriate.
• Assess coverage, notify insureds, establish and adjust reserves.
• Negotiate settlements within authority limits and settle claims.
• Coordinate litigation activities for assigned claims and attend trials as needed.
• Provide senior technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
• Support quality review processes and participate in field investigations.
