Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a dedicated Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist to join our West Region Claims Team. You will review, analyze, and process moderately complex to complex claims, determine liability and compensability, and negotiate settlements.

You may support the Claims Team Manager by assigning new claims and monitoring caseloads. California and Washington remote options exist, with onsite visits twice a month as policy allows.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in workers’ compensation claims handling.
• Direct claims handling from investigation to resolution.
• BS/BA or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years in claims adjustment, general insurance or claims training.
• Must obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
• Continuing education courses leading to AEI/IIA/CPCU preferred.
• Knowledge of claims investigation techniques, medical terminology and legal aspects.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct investigations of claims with insureds, witnesses, and claimants.
• Engage independent adjusters, cause-origin experts, and independent medical examiners as needed.
• Refer claims to subrogation or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
• Assess coverage, notify insureds of issues, establish reserve requirements, and adjust reserves.
• Assess damages, negotiate settlements within authority limits, and settle claims.
• Coordinate litigation activities and attend trials as a company representative.
• Act as senior technical professional on the team and mentor new members.
• Participate in Quality Review processes and related committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
