Staff or Sr. Staff Attorney Contract Position – Worker’s Compensation Defense Attorney

$65-85/hr. W2 (depending on experience / if you are a Senior Attorney or a Staff Attorney)

REMOTE - must live in LA area in case they need to travel

Workers Compensation Experience is a MUST Have

The Staff/ Sr. Staff Attorney is an in-house position that will handle a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases and/or some appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard. This position is a remote work opportunity; however, we are looking for candidates living in LA County area. Selected candidates may be asked to travel 1-5 days per week (as per court requirements) within the following geography: Los Angeles, Long Beach, Marina Del Rey, Van Nuys, and Oxnard, California. Mileage and parking will be reimbursed based on IRS Guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research.
  2. Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  3. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, trial briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
  4. Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured.
  5. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
  6. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
  7. Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
  8. Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials or judicial/administrative hearings.
  9. Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Note: This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or a Senior Staff Attorney commensurate with a candidate’s experience.

Qualified Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:

  1. Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience handling Workers’ Compensation cases.
  2. JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
  3. Trial experience is preferred but not required.
  4. Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
  5. Strong legal research and writing skills.
  6. Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  7. Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
  8. Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Qualified Senior Staff Attorney candidates will possess the following requirements:

  1. Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases.
  2. JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California.
  3. Trial experience is preferred.
  4. Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
  5. Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  6. Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  7. Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
  8. Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  9. Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
