The role requires admission to the Ohio Bar and includes training responsibilities for new Hearing Officers and Legal Interns, with travel to OIC offices as needed. This is a full-time, in-office position at the Akron region.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Ohio attorney with eligibility to practice under ORC 4121.34.
  • Workers’ compensation experience preferred.
  • Strong research and writing abilities essential.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume of adjudicative hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Hears claims on issues of allowance, payment of compensation, medical payments, and disability determinations.
  • Ensures all proceedings are conducted in a fair and legal manner.
  • Performs legal research into difficult questions and participates in depositions.
  • Completes miscellaneous assignments from Regional Managers or staff.
  • Provides training to new Hearing Officers and Legal Interns.
  • Conduсts second-level hearings in the absence of Staff Hearing Officers.
