Job summary

State of Ohio’s Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is seeking an Attorney/Legal professional in Columbus. The role requires admission to the Ohio Bar and involves presiding over or representing BWC in quasi-judicial hearings, with regular on-site work and flexible hours. You will advise on employer compliance, prepare complex cases, and provide legal guidance to state and county agencies.

The position offers full-time hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Admission to Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of Revised Code
• Must be able to provide own transportation
• Probationary period is 12 months

Responsibilities

• Presides over or represents BWC at quasi-judicial hearings (IC and Adjudicating Committee)
• Advises business units on employer compliance and employer fraud matters
• Prepares cases for IC hearings (reviews claims files, collects evidence, analyzes legal issues)
• Provides legal advice & responses to inquiries from state/counties, public, legislation & officials
• Reviews and drafts legal memoranda and work aids on jurisdiction and specific law areas
• Handles adjudication matters involving Marine Industry Fund and Black Lung Fund under relevant laws
