Qualifications

  • Admission to Ohio Bar per Section 4705.01 of Revised Code.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Probationary period is 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Presides over or represents BWC at quasi-judicial administrative hearings, including IC hearings.
  • Advises business units on employer compliance and employer fraud matters.
  • Prepares difficult cases to represent the BWC at IC hearings (reviews claims files, collects evidence, analyzes and researches legal issues).
  • Provides legal advice & responses to inquiries from State &/or county agencies, general public, legislative bodies &/or government officials regarding eligibility, reporting requirements & benefits payable.
  • Reviews, recommends & drafts legal memoranda and work aids related to extraterritorial jurisdiction, independent contractor matters, no-coverage claims, and trucking industry areas of law.
  • Handles legal adjudication matters involving Marine Industry Fund pursuant to Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act 33 USC 901 et seq.) & State workers’ compensation laws.
  • Handles legal adjudication matters involving Black Lung pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 4131.01 & 20 CFR 725-491.
