Des Moines Area Community College is seeking a part-time work-study tutor to assist students with course content, exam review, and study strategies. The role emphasizes guiding students using the Socratic method to foster independent problem-solving and confidence in learning.

Open to DMACC students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and any required transcripts. Schedule is around classes, with approximately 10 hours per week on-site at DMACC campuses.

Qualifications

  • Must be earning a grade of B+ or higher in the subject to be tutored.
  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at DMACC, or provide an official transcript from another accredited institution documenting equivalent academic achievement.
  • Demonstrate competency in the subject area and have the ability to establish and maintain professional tutoring relationships with students from varied backgrounds.

Salary Information

Job Summary

The work study program provides funds for part-time employment to help students finance the costs of postsecondary education. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity for employment arranged around class schedules, while providing essential services to the College and the community.
