The Des Moines Area Community College work-study position provides part-time tutoring services to help students afford education and stay on schedule. The role emphasizes assisting with course content, exam review, and study skills development while aligning with the student’s course of study.

The work study program provides funds for part-time employment to help students finance the costs of postsecondary education. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity for employment arranged around class schedules, while providing essential services to the College and the community.
Support student success by assisting with course content, reviewing for exams, and recommending effective study skills and learning strategies.
Use the Socratic method to guide students toward independent problem-solving, encourage academic responsibility, and foster confidence in their learning.
Must be earning a grade of B+ or higher in the subject to be tutored, maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA at DMACC , or receiving instructor approval or providing an official transcript from another accredited institution documenting equivalent academic achievement.
Demonstrate competency in the subject area and have the ability to establish and maintain professional tutoring relationships with students from varied backgrounds.
10 hours per week, as needed.
