Job summary

The Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney is seeking a Witness Service Coordinator for the Victim Assistance Program. The position administers reimbursement claims for crime victims and coordinates verification with law enforcement, courts, and prosecutors, ensuring eligibility and timely processing.

Based at the Criminal Branch, the role requires a California Driver License, strong communication, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work under pressure.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of education in behavior science, criminal justice or related curricula.
• Valid California Driver License.
• Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural/ethnic diversity of service populations and to special populations.
• Ability to work under limited supervision, high stress, and rapidly changing situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and agencies.
• Ability to complete required training and obtain CalVCB certification.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and evaluating applications for reimbursement to crime victims and ensuring that claims adhere to state eligibility requirements.
• Maintaining an ongoing system to track and control the claims process.
• Preparing verification reports which include a synopsis of the crime and description of injuries.
• Obtaining legal case status and disposition information through interaction with law enforcement, attorneys, courts, and probation officers.
• Assistance in processing, filing, and verifying of claims filed by victims of crime pursuant to Government Code.
• Calculating total and net losses to victims and recording on verification forms.
• Identifying sources of reimbursement such as state disability insurance, health insurance, auto insurance, restitution, and public assistance.
• Determining documents necessary to support losses and sending verification forms.
• Updating case files to ensure full reimbursement and closing completed files.
• Completing and submitting monthly statistical reports on the number of completed cases.
