Job summary

Los Angeles City Attorney is seeking a Witness Service Coordinator for the Victim Assistance Program within the Criminal Branch. The role supports processing and verifying Victim of Crime Compensation applications, working from the Joint Powers Verification Unit at the Van Nuys City Hall Building.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of education in behavior science, criminal justice, or related field and/or experience in victim services.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in related field preferred.
• Valid California Driver License.
• Ability to work under high stress and changing conditions.
• Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment.
• Effective written and verbal communication with public and agencies.
• Willingness to complete CalVCB training and certification.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate reimbursement applications for crime victims.
• Maintain a system to track and control the claims process.
• Prepare verification reports with crime synopsis and injuries.
• Obtain case status from law enforcement, attorneys, courts, and probation officers.
• Assist in processing and verifying claims under CalVCB provisions.
• Calculate losses and record on verification forms.
• Identify sources of reimbursement (insurance, restitution, public assistance).
• Determine documents needed to support losses and send verification forms.
• Update case files to ensure full reimbursement and close files.
• Complete and submit monthly statistical reports.
