Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is hiring non-permanent Highway Maintenance Workers for the winter maintenance season across several locations in the South Central Region. Work includes snow/ice removal, guardrail and sign repairs, pothole patching, and traffic control.

Typical schedule is 40 hours per week, with potential nights, weekends, and holidays. Positions are non-permanent for 3–6 months, starting in Oct–Nov depending on location.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing routine and emergency highway maintenance and related infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment listed in the qualifications.
  • CDL Class B with N endorsement and a valid Medical Card, plus safety certifications.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with procedures.
  • Proficiency with electronic timekeeping and maintenance documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highway maintenance outdoors under varying weather and traffic conditions.
  • Operate equipment such as loaders, sweepers and Vactors to support snow and ice response.
  • Repair guardrails, signs, potholes and drainage as required.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, contractors and the public to safely complete tasks.
  • Work 40 hours per week with potential for nights, weekends, and holidays.
