Job summary

Sotheby’s Wine seeks an experienced and independent professional to engage potential and current clients, grow the business, and negotiate profitable consignments for Americas sales. The role includes providing auction and retail advice, attending wine events, inspecting property, and supporting the wine property team with valuations and marketing content.

Responsibilities focus on securing consignments, managing client relationships, hosting at auctions, and cross-selling the retail business.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent business experience in a relevant field.
• Strong knowledge of auction process and business model is required.
• WSET Diploma preferred and wine expertise highly valued.
• Exceptional knowledge of fine and rare wines and vintages with valuation experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and client service mindset.
• Attention to detail and independent decision-making ability.
• Networking to convert social connections into business opportunities.
• Experience selling to high net worth individuals.
• MS Word, Excel and SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Secure profitable consignments for auction while meeting revenue targets.
• Provide advice to buyers across auction and retail channels.
• Participate in client development and entertaining at events.
• Inspect wines for auction; support wine property team in warehouse and client sites.
• Deliver high-level customer service to clients to drive sales.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales to host clients at wine auctions and related events.
• Cross-sell the retail business to auction buyers.
• Lead other wine specialists and provide market valuations.
• Prepare marketing content and photos for the wine property team.
• Engage in local, regional and global Sotheby’s Wine projects as required.

Education

Undergraduate degree relevant field or equivalent business experience

Strong understanding and experience in auction process and business model

Exceptional knowledge of fine and rare wines and vintages

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Self-starter with ability to make commercial decisions independently

Strong ability to network and convert social connections into business opportunities

Experience networking and selling to high net worth individuals

Professional, discreet client service skills

Proficient in MS Word, Excel and SAP preferred
