Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Wind Technician to support facility operations and the wind team. You will oversee start-up/shutdown of turbines and balance of plant equipment while ensuring safety, health and environmental compliance.

You will inspect and maintain mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with OEMs/contractors to improve reliability and performance. This on-site role requires climbing and field work.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred in wind, electrical, mechanical or related tech.
2 years wind industry experience or equivalent power plant experience in electrical maintenance/operations.
Ability to climb and operate in industrial environments; valid driver’s license.
Familiarity with SCADA and power plant control systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

Oversee turbine start-up, operation and shutdowns, including associated equipment (generators, exciters, transformers, switchyard).
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
Coordinate with OEMs and contractors; lead safety/operational training and JHA/JSA activities.
Monitor plant performance, analyze deviations and implement corrective actions.
Assist in safety, security and emergency response procedures at the wind facility.
