Job summary

Maternal and Family Health Services in Wilkes-Barre is seeking a Program Assistant for the WIC location. The role focuses on data collection and screenings to determine client eligibility for WIC benefits and nutrition education.

You will deliver services according to program procedures, provide referrals, and participate in trainings. The position emphasizes accuracy, customer service, and supportive care for families.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree preferred but not required.
• 1–3 years’ experience preferred.
• Clearances: Child Abuse, PA Criminal Record & FBI.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to perform measurements and weight-related tasks.
• Basic math: addition, subtraction, division, fractions.
• Lift up to 25 lbs.
• Long periods of standing, twisting, sitting; occasional pushing/pulling.

Responsibilities

• Explain program purpose and what to expect at appointment.
• Verify identification and residency; check income eligibility.
• Perform hematological and anthropometric measurements.
• Provide nutrition and breastfeeding contacts per policy.
• Explain and administer food instruments and E-WIC card use.
• Provide referrals to clients and document actions.
• Attend regular trainings and updates.
