Job summary

Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) in Memphis is hiring a West TN Latinx Community Organizer. This part-time role (15–30 hrs/week) focuses on building leadership within immigrant and refugee communities and linking residents to TIRRC’s services and campaigns.

Responsibilities include facilitating community education campaigns, outreach, and meetings with leaders, while mobilizing participants for events and advocacy.

Qualifications

  • Belief in TIRRC’s mission and social justice experience.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, stay organized, work with limited supervision, and communicate well in teams.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and build partnerships.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred.
  • Available for flexible hours, including some nights and weekends; statewide travel.
  • Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Position: West TN Latinx Community Organizer

Location: Memphis, TN

Employment Type: Part‑Time (15–30 hrs/week; hourly $23; end date Aug 15 2026 with option to renew)

About TIRRC

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition is hiring a West TN community organizer to work with our organizing team to identify and develop leadership within diverse immigrant and refugee communities, identify pressing issues and opportunities to organize, and connect individuals to TIRRC’s existing services, campaigns, and leadership development opportunities. Ideal candidates are established leaders within West TN immigrant and refugee communities, with strong relationships, deep networks, and excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate community education campaigns and trainings/Training of Trainers with community leaders to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have accurate and timely information about policy changes that impact the lives of their community.
  • Lead outreach efforts to ensure that immigrant and refugee communities have information about and access to TIRRC’s services and leadership development opportunities.
  • Hold individual and group meetings to deepen relationships, identify community leaders, and identify important issues affecting the community in the TIRRC priority neighborhoods.
  • Build a base of engaged leaders from diverse immigrant and refugee communities who can inform and lead TIRRC’s advocacy campaigns.
  • Facilitate the engagement of immigrant and refugee leaders, organizations, and communities in civic engagement efforts and in TIRRC’s issue advocacy campaigns.
  • Lead mobilization efforts to increase participation of diverse immigrant and refugee communities in TIRRC events, actions, and support the growth of the membership.
  • Represent TIRRC at community events, in the media, and with other organizations as needed.
  • Ensure all data is maintained in the organizational database.
  • Participate in significant organizational events.
  • Recruit dues‑paying individual and organizational members to join TIRRC.
Qualifications
  • Belief in TIRRC’s mission and experience with social justice.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on deadline, be highly organized, work with little supervision, and maintain accountability and strong communication with others in collaborative projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and to build and maintain relationships with partners.
  • Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking.
  • Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel statewide.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
Wage and Benefits
  • Hourly Rate: $23/hour for 15–30 hrs/week.
  • Benefits: All employees receive 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Program. Part‑time employees receive paid sick time commensurate with the number of hours worked.
