Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) seeks a part-time Multicultural Community Organizer to connect East TN indigenous immigrant communities with campaigns and leadership opportunities. The ideal candidate is a trusted leader within indigenous Guatemalan and Mayan communities in the Chattanooga or Cleveland area, with strong communication and organizing skills.

Responsibilities include community organizing, education on Know Your Rights, and organizational support.

Qualifications

• Belief in TIRRC's mission and experience with social justice.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in another language preferred.
• Knowledge of Middle Tennessee's immigrant and refugee communities preferred.
• Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in diverse teams.
• Comfort with public speaking.
• Availability for flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel within Middle TN.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Part‑Time Non‑Exempt Position at 15–20 hours per week. Based in Chattanooga or Cleveland, TN.

About TIRRC

The Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is a statewide, immigrant and refugee‑led collaboration. Our mission is to build power, amplify our voices, and organize communities to advocate for our rights. Our vision is a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee where people of all nationalities, immigration statuses, and racial identities can belong and thrive. TIRRC has a sister organization, TIRRC Votes, a separate nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although TIRRC and TIRRC Votes share a common goal of building power for immigrants and refugees in Tennessee, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. Certain employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, share their time between the two organizations.

About the Position

TIRRC is seeking a dedicated organizer to work with our organizing team to connect individuals from East TN's indigenous immigrant communities to TIRRC's campaigns and leadership development opportunities. The ideal candidate is an established leader within the indigenous Guatemalan and Mayan communities in the Chattanooga or Cleveland area with strong communication and organizing skills.

Responsibilities

Community Organizing

• Hold individual and group meetings to deepen relationships, identify community leaders, and identify important issues affecting the community.
• Build a base of engaged leaders who can inform and lead TIRRC's advocacy campaigns.
• Facilitate the engagement of immigrant and refugee leaders, organizations, and communities in civic engagement efforts and in TIRRC's issue advocacy campaigns.
• Support mobilization efforts to increase participation of diverse immigrant and refugee communities in TIRRC events and actions.

Community Education

• Lead community education and outreach efforts on Know Your Rights information and services to ensure their community has accurate and timely information about policy changes that impact the lives of their community.
• Through 1‑on‑1 recruitment, trainings using popular education methodology, growth opportunities, and regular meetings where community members craft and evaluate strategy, identify pressing issues and opportunities to organize and build power for their community.

Organizational Support

• Represent TIRRC at community events, in the media, and with other organizations as needed.
• Ensure all data is maintained in the organizational database.
• Participate in significant organizational events.

Qualifications

• Belief in TIRRC's mission and experience with social justice.
• Fluency in English and fluency or working proficiency in another language spoken by TIRRC's constituencies is preferred.
• Knowledge of one of Middle Tennessee's diverse immigrant and refugee communities preferred.
• Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred.
• Excellent communication skills with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
• Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel within Middle TN.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Wage and Benefits

• Hourly Rate: $24/hour for 15-20 hours per week.
• All employees receive 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Program. Part‑time employees receive paid sick time commensurate with the number of hours worked.
