Job summary

Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) seeks a part-time Multicultural Community Organizer to connect East TN indigenous immigrant communities with campaigns and leadership opportunities. The ideal candidate is a trusted leader within indigenous Guatemalan and Mayan communities in the Chattanooga or Cleveland area, with strong communication and organizing skills.

Responsibilities include community organizing, education on Know Your Rights, and organizational support.

Qualifications

  • Belief in TIRRC's mission and experience with social justice.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in another language preferred.
  • Knowledge of Middle Tennessee's immigrant and refugee communities preferred.
  • Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration in diverse teams.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Availability for flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel within Middle TN.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Hold meetings to deepen relationships, identify community leaders, and surface issues.
  • Build a base of engaged leaders to inform and lead advocacy campaigns.
  • Facilitate engagement of immigrant and refugee leaders in civic engagement efforts and campaigns.
  • Support mobilization to increase participation in events and actions.
  • Represent TIRRC at community events and in media as needed.
  • Maintain data in the organizational database.
  • Participate in organizational events.
