Job summary

The YMCA is seeking a Wellness Director to lead Healthy Living programs and create an outstanding fitness experience for all members in the Homewood, AL area.

You will coach and mentor staff, build strong programs, and drive growth through community engagement while upholding the YMCA mission. This full-time role requires leadership, adaptability, and a passion for health and wellness.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of wellness programming experience with teens and adults.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Recreation, or related field preferred.
• Experience managing budgeting/finances and staff development.
• Ability to work weekends in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid personal training certification (NASM, ACE, ACSM, etc.).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Leading and directing branch Healthy Living programs, including wellness promotion, risk reduction, and support for members managing chronic conditions
• Promoting and educating staff, members, and the community on healthy living programs to boost member health, retention, and revenue
• Building and managing a high-performing wellness team through strong relationships and hands-on leadership
• Partnering with branch management to design innovative programs and measure their impact
• Using data and outcomes to continuously improve programs and hit strategic goals
• Onboarding, training, developing, and supervising wellness staff
• Maintaining top-level expertise in fitness equipment, healthy lifestyle programming, and customer service to elevate the member and guest experience
• Serving as an active member of the branch management team, supporting overall branch success
