Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a Welding Lab Technician & Instructional Aide to support safe, efficient welding instruction. You will assist instructors, prepare materials, maintain inventories, and help supervise demonstrations in a busy welding lab.
The role is grant-funded, with a normal 8 AM–5 PM schedule, and requires adherence to safety procedures and active lab work around welding equipment and materials.

The Welding Lab Technician & Instructional Aide supports the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the welding laboratory while assisting instructors and students with hands‑on welding instruction. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly shop environment, preparing materials and equipment for instruction and testing, maintaining inventory and equipment, and providing practical demonstrations and student assistance under the direction of the course instructor.
This is a grant-funded position. The position is contingent upon the availability and continuation of grant funding and is subject to the terms, conditions, and requirements of the applicable grant award. Continuation of the position beyond the current grant funding period is not guaranteed and may be dependent upon the availability of future funding.
This position works primarily in a welding laboratory/shop environment and requires regular interaction with welding equipment, tools, metals, consumable materials, heat, fumes, noise, and other conditions associated with welding instruction.
The position requires adherence to all applicable institutional and occupational safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment ( PPE ). The employee must be able to work safely and effectively in an active laboratory/shop environment and follow established procedures for the handling, storage, and use of welding equipment, materials, and supplies.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Knowledge of welding processes, equipment, tools, and shop practices.
Knowledge of welding laboratory safety procedures and safe work practices.
Ability to safely operate and maintain common welding equipment.
Ability to prepare welding practice and testing materials accurately.
Ability to maintain organized and accurate equipment and consumable inventories.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff.
Ability to provide clear practical demonstrations and hands‑on assistance.
Ability to work independently while following established procedures and instructor direction.
Strong attention to safety, cleanliness, organization, and detail.
Industry-recognized welding certifications, such as AWS Certified Welder or other relevant welding credentials.
