Job summary

Brightpoint Community College is seeking an adjunct welding instructor to teach oxyacetylene, SMAW, and GMAW welding with emphasis on safety and hands-on practice. Instruction occurs in both classroom and laboratory settings for part-time faculty in the Engineering, Business and Public Services division.

The successful candidate will have either a high school diploma with extensive field experience or an Associate/Baccalaureate degree with relevant credentials, and must pass a background check.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of field experience or an Associate/Baccalaureate degree with 4+ years in the field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Successful background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach oxyacetylene, shielded metal arc, and inert-gas welding including equipment and safety.
  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction as part of adjunct role.

Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is one of the largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. General Information:

Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.

Responsibilities:

The Division of Engineering, Business and Public Services at Brightpoint Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Teach oxyacetylene, shielded metal arc, and inert-gas welding including equipment, safety operations, and welding practice. Involves classroom and laboratory instruction.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field or an Associate or Baccalaureate degree with minimum of 4 years of experience in the field. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check are required.
