Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, prep, and WPS compliance, and maintain weld maps and logs. The company sponsors the CWI exam for eligible candidates.

The role includes visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing code, coordination with NDT, and daily reporting. Travel to project sites is required with varying shifts and overtime as welding progresses.

Qualifications

• CAWI eligibility or 3+ years welding/welding inspection experience.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Reliable, careful and honest in weld evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1/D1.5.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with NDT technician and record results.
